Status: 3D model / university final major project (foundation year)
Project Proposal: Genes and Islamic art - could they be related?
Explanation: An exploration of the commonalities between nature and Islamic art through the study of geometrical patterns found in the human body, animals and natural environment, and the architectural patterns found in Islamic places of worship (Mosques)
The final outcome of this project is a wooden model of a Mosque situated in the solitude of the natural environment. The context of forestry and the minimalist design of the Mosque is deliberate. Nature has a lot of significance in mainstream Abrahamic religions as Paradise is described as a garden. Away from the chaos of the city, the location and scenery of the Mosque allows the worshipper to be in a quiet, healing and meditative environment, closer to being one with the Earth and less distracted. Mosques are famously known for their beautiful and rich architecture as a reflection of God's beauty and magnificence; however I believe it can also fuel materialism, and serve as a distraction to the worshipper and dampen their awareness of the Divine as He is experienced, not seen
Design Concept: Minimalism
